FIVE QUESTIONS

The wildly successful, instant cult classic, television series Game of Thrones starts it’s 3rd season this Sunday night and we’re super stoked to say the least. We’re not only fans of the show but after our recent hang John Bradley, we kinda feel like we have a buddy on the cast. During his very first NYC visit we got to hang for a few, talk football (soccer) and ask the five questions. The 24 year old Bradley, who hails from Manchester plays character Samwell Tarly and get this; he landed his role via his college website. While he’s a mere 24 years young and just getting busy in the acting game, he’s got the laid back demeanor of a seasoned pro. We got the inside scoop that his charachter’s got a good story line poppin’ this season. Thanks for making the time to hang out John, we’ll be watching Sunday night homie!

What was your favorite cartoon/TV show as a kid?                                            The Simpsons, I think we’ve all grown up with them.

What was your favorite cereal?                                                                           Cheerios.

What was the first record you bought?                                                                ACDC’s “Back in Black”

What was the first live show/concert you went to?                                              I saw Fightstar in Manchester, it’s Charlie from Busted’s band.

What posters were hanging on your bedroom wall in high school?                Mostly music and football, Manchester United, Ian Brown and four ACDC posters.

The Insider: Rodrigo Santoro

image

Even if you don’t recognize his name, chances are you’ve definitely seen 37-year-old actor Rodrigo Santoro’s face. Having starred in films like Che, 300, What to Expect When You’re Expecting and many more, the Brazilian talent’s latest role is that of legendary football player Heleno de Freitas (who died from syphilis in a sanatorium in Barbacena in 1959) in the new José Henrique Fonseca-directed film Heleno (opening on December 7th). We caught up Santoro to talk about the training and preparation that went into the character and the reprising of his role as Xerxes in Noam Murro’s upcoming 300: Rise of an Empire

Interview: Paul Insect

image

Though few people are aware of his true identity, Paul Insect has quickly become a one of the art world’s most sought-after figures over the past few years. Having made a huge splash back in 2007 when Damien Hirst bestowed his proverbial stamp of approval by purchasing the artist’s entire collection and counting himself as one of the few to be within Banksy’s trusted inner circle, Paul Insect just recently unveiled Out of Chaos, his very first solo exhibition in New York City. We met up with the elusive artist just before the opening to talk more about the show, his mysterious veil of anonymity, and the evolution of street art.

Interview: No Regular Play

With recent knockout sets at The Boiler Room in Berlin along with a string of highly-successful remixes behind them, we knew it wouldn’t be too long before duo Greg Paulus and Nick DeBruyn of Brooklyn-based outfit No Regular Play put out a full length album. Having known each other since childhood (with journeys along the way including Cuba to study Afro-Cuban rhythm, music and culture, The Minnesota Symphony Orchestra and The Manhattan School of Music) the boys certainly had an eclectic range of tastes to pool from for their debut LP.

Carefully fusing together everything from rap and jazz, to hip hop and house, Paulus and DeBruyn manage to put together a record that plays out like an hour and a half club set filled with thumping hypnotic house beats. We caught up with the guys at their home and recording studio, the legendary Marcy Hotel, to discuss everything from rider demands and Kim Ann Foxman to the unexpected meaning behind their name.
