Martin Scorsese and Robert Pattinson may be able to get away with statement brows. But you should clean yours up. “Having your eyebrows groomed is like getting your hair cut,” says brow expert Anastasia Soare. “It’s nothing to be ashamed of.” We asked Soare, who grooms David Beckham and Jason Schwartzman, how to tackle those caterpillars above your eyes. —ELLEN CARPENTER

Clear a path:

You should have two eyebrows, not one. How do you know how much to tweeze? “Put your finger in between your brows - that should be the space, says Soare. “If the space is too big, it makes your nose look wide.” As for tweezers, we like the super-thin Black Slant pair created by industrial designer Luigi Colani for Swiss brand Rubis.

Curves are for girls:

“A man’s eyebrows shouldn’t look too arched,” says Soare. “The bone structure of a man is different from a woman’s, so it doesn’t look good.” Definitely tweeze unruly hairs underneath the brow - just don’t try to shape them.

Cut it out:

Use scissors to trim brows to a more manageable length. “But be careful not to trim them too short,” stresses Soare. Brush them up, trim one or two millimeters at a time, and then step back and look at yourself in the mirror to see if you need to trim more.
