VINTAGE OLD SKOOL BY VANS

Here at NYLON HQ we believe that when a piece of clothing is truly great, the only thing you can do to improve it is make it available in even more colors. When it comes to Vans style 36 aka the Old Skool, a shoe that’s been around for 35 years (we’ve been wearing it for 20) the new color offerings couldn’t get better. The new brown/estate blue and tawny port/frost gray are by far some of our favorite combos ever offered. If you’ve never owned a pair, now is the time for your first, check them out HERE in these and a dozen other color ways.

FIVE QUESTIONS

With their second record When It Was Now just released, Atlas Genius are on an insane tour schedule doing the festival circuit and club dates that take them well through September. We caught up with lead singer Keith Jeffery before a private performance at the Original Penguin store in SoHo to chat about Australia, his home country, and ask our usual five questions. MULTI COLOR CAMO JACKET BY MIHARA YASUHIRO X PUMA

Three things we are suckers for hooded nylon jackets, camouflage, and Puma; combine them all together and you get this jacket, which make it a definite must-have for us. The brand frequently collaborates with streetwear legend Mihara Yasuhiro and this whole new pop art print they have going on is a perfect example of why. With three zip enclosure pockets this lightweight polyester windbreaker is perfect for a run or running around town. What’s even better, there’s shorts, shoes, and a bag to match. The Trudy Taslan baggies in all of their fuchsia glory stand out when digging through a drawer full of khaki and camo. We cannot stress the value of side pockets and a back pocket enough. HEX X FOOL’S GOLD SOLO WALLET FOR iPHONE 5

One of our favorite independant brands teams up with one of our favorite record labels to release an accessory we all need. That would be Hex, the California based technology acessories companies and Fool’s Gold, who have put out a ton of our favorite records. Summer is coming and that means small shorts and smaller pockets, so what’s better than a phone case with slots for your i.d. and credit card? Is this the first one of it’s kind? No but you you know what? This one is wrapped in genuine leather embossed with a design based on the labels bespoke wallpaper—yes they have bespoke wallpaper in their store. Available in the HEX web store HERE or at the Fool’s Gold store on 536 Metropolitan Ave. in Brooklyn.

SINCLAIR JACKET BY BURTON

Simple is so easy to say and so hard to do but Burton does it well. This Sinclair jacket is the perfect example of a piece that works with everything, wears well year-round, and will never go out of style. It makes sense that the 35 year old company would have simple down pat, but on top of that this jacket is available in sizes up to XXL, something a lot of newer brands take for granted. Check it out in three colors HERE

LIBERTY FLORAL BUCKET HAT BY YMC

With the recent resurgence of bucket hats, we’re thinking it would be a wise choice for you to drop everything you’re doing and order one now.  Whoa man! Not right now!  At least humor me and finish reading this post.  After all, you never know what type of vital informative gold I could be saving for the knockout punch.  Like how this Liberty Floral Bucket Hat is the one you should buy.  Or how it has paneled construction and a fluted brim.  Or maybe even how 97 percent of all men that wear bucket hats live 10 years longer than those that don’t.  Okay, that last statistic has no scientific backing but I had to make sure you were still paying attention.  Fine, now you can drop everything you’re doing and order your bucket hat HERE.

SKY HIGH TRUNKS BY VENROY

Aussie buddies Theo Smallbone and Sean Venturi started their brand Venroy in the summer of 2010 and we’ve gotta tell you: for a two-year-old company these dudes are killing it. We’re suckers for trunks that wear like shorts, when the summer comes we live in them and the cut, fabric, and wear of this line are perfect for both beach and street. Have you ever heard of peach-faced quick dry polyester? We hadn’t either until we found these and take our word for it, they feel like pajamas. So basically these guys make swim trunks that look sharp enough to dress up or down and they feel like pajamas…now we just need them in a dozen colors. Check out the entire Veneroy collection HERE.

WITCH DOCTOR BY ARNETTE

In 1992 designer Tommy Arnette left his job at Oakley and decided to launch his own sportswear line. He started a company and named it after himself; what else would he call it? The brand is best known for their stylish, durable, and scratch resistant glasses often seen on the faces of athletes like pro-skaters Mark Appleyard and Willy Santos or pro-surfers Chippa Wilson and Nathan Fletcher. Our buddies at Oakley recently sent over these Witch Doctors with interchangeable arms. The Grilamid TR90 frames are extremely lightweight, durable, and are unaffected by natural temperature changes, allowing them to maintain their shape over time and with wear. The lenses are 100-percent UVA and UVB protective from sunlight and give everything you see a rich tone. Grab a pair of these extremely durable glasses HERE and maybe never shop for shades again.

SWEATER BY MERZ B. SCHWANEN

Details are always the difference-makers when it comes to clothing, and this Merz B. Schwanen sweater is the perfect garment to prove it.  You see, without such particulars as a contrasting inset “v” and cuffs, this would just be another maroon sweater…and who in their right mind needs more than one maroon sweater?  It’s made out of 100-percent cotton, with terry fleece on the reverse side, so it’s ideal to throw on as the sun begins to go down and the temperature starts to drop.  Buy yours HERE and we promise it will be the only maroon sweater you’ll want in your closet - not that you should need a second anyway.

G-SHOCK X SUPRA “IT’S ABOUT TIME” COLLABORATION

In celebration of G-Shock’s 30th anniversary, the watchmaker is doing a series of collaborations with likeminded individuals and brands. For their partnership with Supra the archives were opened and they allowed the shoe designers to re-imagine a model that has never been used before in a collaboration. Supra turned the shock resistant watch’s face matte black and read accents. The traditional resin band was replaced with military grade Cordura, which has a red leather underside. A limited number of this special edition will be available HERE and at retailers world wide May 11th.

RITCHIE SHIRT BY WOOD WOOD

Who says the stripes on your oxford need to be vertical? Certainly not the Wood Wood folks; they’re known for making the usual unusual and the great even better. The Ritchie shirt is 100-percent cotton with a relaxed fit so while the requirements of wearing an oxford shirt are met, Christian “The Intern” is still keeping it super comfortable in these SoHo streets. Grab yourself one over HERE and stand out in your office without breaking the dress code.

VERTICAL KNIT BOXER BY TOMMY HILFIGER
In the song “Freedom” George Michael sings about how clothes do not make the man, and usually we agree but when it comes to your boxers, all the attention in the world should be paid. Tommy Hilfige—both the man and the brand—are historically known for hitting fashion home runs, and this vertical stripe number is a must for us. The best of both worlds, a boxer and a brief, the iconic logo on the waist band says it all. Sometimes the clothes do make the man okay! Get ‘em on sale HERE.
