MOVIE REVIEW : THE GREAT GATSBY
When we were offered a sneak preview of one of the most anticipated movies of 2013, we didn’t ask when or where the viewing was to take place, the answer was indubitably YES! Yes we realize that fact that we didn’t mention the fact that said movie is in fact, The Great Gatsby, but do we need to? Anyway, the day arrived and we got in the car with our better half, NYLON of course, to the town of Manhasset in Long Island, coincidentally-or maybe not so much-where parts of the movie were filmed. We arrived just in time to hear the director, Baz Luhrmann, give a little introduction—what a rad dude that guy is. We don’t want to give anything away, but the movie began and from the minute it started to the last scene it was chock full of action, color, music…it’s just larger than any other movie. It’s like a roller coaster ride, for real. Did you see the Romeo and Juliet movie Luhrmann did in the ’90s? Well that was only his second movie and if you can imagine that film but visually twice as packed with, well, everything, that’s what this movie is like. Also, we have a confession to make: We never read the book, but you know what? It might be better that way because the cast of this movie really fulfill anything you need from a character. It feels like a million bucks and it moves so fast it could last another 45 minutes and we wouldn’t mind. It’s tough to write about because there’s so much we wanna say, but we’ll just tell you this: This movie is the biggest movie of 2013, you must see it in the theater because a small screen will never do it justice, and this is for sure an instant classic. Oh, yeah, and it’s out today. We’ll see you in the popcorn line (yes we’re going to see it a couple more times).
